Redesigning the Privacy Policy & Terms of Use Experience for DDM
The Privacy & Trust team at DDM approached our revenue design team after noticing a drop in engagement on the company’s Privacy Policy and terms of use pages. Legal stakeholders also expressed frustration with how difficult the pages were to navigate due to clutter, poor hierarchy, and an outdated user experience.
The goal became clear: “Create an experience that is intuitive, accessible, and trustworthy for privacy-minded users.”
My Role
As a UI/UX Designer on this project. My key responsibilities included:
UX Research and Analysis
UI Design and Visual Hierarchy
Developer Handoff & Collaboration
Discovery & Research
To base our design on up to date tendencies, I conducted a competitive analysis of companies known for strong privacy experiences, including Disney and T-Mobile. My goal was to understand how large organizations compartmentalized legal documentation in a way that felt user-friendly.
Key takeaways from research:
Competitors used expandable tiles or collapsible sections to break down content.
Competitors had Privacy Hubs that allow users to toggle between multiple legal documents from one centralized location.
Wireframing & Iteration
I began the design phase with low-fidelity sketches to explore multiple layouts for the privacy hub. After several iterations, I transitioned into Figma to refine and test design directions with internal stakeholders.
A New Privacy Hub
After stakeholder feedback and multiple rounds of iteration, I finalized a design that delivered:
Clear navigation between legal documents
Jump points to specific sections
High-contrast, legible text and scalable visual design
Responsive breakpoints for mobile, tablet, and desktop
Modular design system that could grow with future legal needs
The final Figma file was handed off to developers with detailed specs, assets, and notes. Development began shortly after with support from our team.
Results and Takeaways
We received positive feedback from internal legal stakeholders and the Privacy team. By focusing on structure, readability, and accessibility, we transformed cluttered pages into a polished, user-centered experience.
